What this site collects

Nothing directly. There are no accounts, no forms, no newsletter and no first-party cookies.

Server logs

The provider that serves these pages records the usual request data (IP address, user agent, requested URL, date and time) for security and abuse prevention. It is not used to build visitor profiles and is kept according to that provider’s policy.

Advertising

These pages are supported by advertising, and the ads are served by Google and other third parties. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site; those cookies and similar identifiers let the vendor and its partners select ads, measure their performance and limit how often you see the same ad. You can review or turn off personalised advertising in Google’s ad settings, and you can opt out of personalised advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info or, in the European Union, at youronlinechoices.eu. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised advertising is used, and refusing it leaves the pages fully readable. The advertising code loads nothing inside the article text, and the guides are never written around it.

Your rights in the United Kingdom

If you are in the United Kingdom, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 give you the right to be informed about how your personal data is used, to access the personal data a controller holds about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to some processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 sets out your rights as a consumer, including that services must be performed with reasonable care and skill, and that goods must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. Because this site holds nothing of its own, the usual answer to such a request is to confirm that, and to point you to the hosting provider and the advertising network, which are the parties that do process request data.
