Brands the tables do not list, and the records that name them

The repair tables on this site come from one repair company’s completed jobs, and that company states its own publishing limits on the pages it publishes them on. Its failure-mix page says, in English: “A brand and appliance combination is published only with at least 200 matched jobs. Twenty-six combinations qualify.” “a brand is reported only where at least sixty qualifying repairs support it; brand and appliance combinations require at least forty” The brand names those two pages do publish are: Samsung, GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, LG, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch.

The names in the table below do not appear in those lists. For them, the published records are government recall notices, reproduced with their own figures.

Prices on this site are Canadian market figures and can change; your own quote may differ.

The recall notices belong to Health Canada and to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, and are reproduced with their own figures, dates and companies: their figures are units sold and the remedy stated, not service-call statistics. A search returning no record is a search result, not a finding by either agency about the product.

What the government publishes for the labour

The repair labour rate is the figure a government publishes for this trade, by province and region, with its own methodology and its own reference period. It is an hourly wage, not a repair price.

Government of Canada, Job Bank — appliance service technician (NOC 72421). “These wages were updated on November 19, 2025.” “Due to data limitations, wages for this occupation cannot be published.”

What the manufacturer’s own store publishes for the recalled model

For the model named in the recall notice, the manufacturer’s own Canadian parts store publishes a part list with prices in Canadian dollars and a stock line for each part. The rows below are reproduced as that page publishes them.

The part number in the recall notice: WS01A03089 — The recall notice names part number WS01A03089; a search of the same store returns “No products were found matching your selection.” (checked 2026-09-20).

What a Toronto repair company publishes for its own market

The ranges below are the ones a repair company in Toronto and the GTA publishes in its own 2026 cost guide, in Canadian dollars (the CA$ marker is this page’s currency label, not the source’s). The rows are reproduced as that page publishes them.

Nick’s Appliance Repair (a repair company, Toronto & GTA, Ontario) — appliance repair cost guide 2026 (Toronto & GTA). “Real repair costs for fridges, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and ovens in Toronto — with no surprises.”

Oven / StoveBake element, igniter, control board, thermostatCA$20–CA$150CA$90–CA$310

The same guide states a CA$89 diagnostic fee, “fully waived when you proceed with the repair”, and puts Toronto labour rates at CA$80–CA$180 per hour.

This source publishes neither a job count nor a median, and it does not describe how the figures were compiled: the ranges are therefore reproduced as published, and they are not cited here as a median. The ranges are not added together.

What a second Ontario repair company publishes for its own city

The ranges below are the ones a repair company in London, Ontario publishes in its own 2026 cost guide, in Canadian dollars (the CA$ marker is this page’s currency label, not the source’s). The rows are reproduced as that page publishes them.

Max Appliance Repair London (a repair company, London, Ontario) — appliance repair cost guide 2026 (London, Ontario). “Prices reviewed September 2026.”

DishwasherPump, door latch, water inlet valveCA$120 to CA$350
Oven / stoveHeating element, igniter, control boardCA$120 to CA$370

The same page puts the service call at CA$80–CA$120 (that fee covers the diagnosis, and the company applies it toward the repair if you proceed) and labour at CA$75–CA$130 per hour, adds that sealed-system refrigerator repairs (compressor, condenser coil) can push CA$400 to CA$700, and states: “Most common repairs are completed in one visit of 1 to 2 hours.”

This source publishes neither a job count nor a median, and it does not describe how the figures were compiled: the ranges are therefore reproduced as published, and they are not cited here as a median. The ranges are not added together.

What Canada’s statistical agency publishes about appliance repair

The figures below are the ones Statistics Canada publishes in its own article on appliances: how many repair businesses there are, what they offer to pay technicians, and how consumer prices for repair services have moved against the price of new appliances. The article is dated March 21, 2024. Where a figure is a dollar amount, the CA$ marker is this page’s currency label, not the source’s.

Statistics Canada — the appliance repair market in Canada. “There were 2,826 business locations nationwide in the appliance repair and maintenance industry in December 2023.”

ItemAs the source publishes it
Repair and maintenance businesses, December 20232,826 locations nationwide
Of the locations that reported staff numbers: share with 1 to 4 employees / with 5 to 9 employees75.5% / 17.1%
Job vacancies for appliance servicers and repairers, third quarter of 2023 (same quarter a year earlier)245 (375)
Average offered hourly wage in the occupation, third quarter of 2023 (with three to less than five years of experience)CA$23.80 (CA$30.25)
Consumer prices, services related to household furnishings and equipment including appliance repair, February 2024 (year over year)+7.8%
Consumer prices, new household appliances, February 2024 (year over year)-2.2%

The same article adds: “There were 245 job vacancies nationwide for appliance servicers and repairers in the third quarter of 2023, down from 375 relative to the same quarter a year earlier.” On prices it writes: “Consumers paid 7.8% more in February 2024 on a year-over-year basis for services related to household furnishings and equipment, including appliance repair.” And: “In February 2024, prices were down 2.2% compared with the same month a year earlier.”

This is a statistical agency’s summary article, not a price list: it publishes no sample of repair jobs and no median repair price, so nothing above is cited as a median. Every figure carries the reference period the article states, and the percentages are neither added together nor compared with each other here.

What a consumer organization publishes about service life

CAA-Quebec publishes, in its own English edition, a table of the average lifespan of household appliances and of the sign that, according to the page, means it is time to replace. The rows below are reproduced as that page publishes them.

CAA-Quebec — average lifespan of household appliances and signs it is time to replace. “There’s no universal formula for knowing whether it’s better to repair an appliance or buy a new one. It all depends on the age of the appliance and your tolerance for risk.”

Appliance typeAverage lifespanSign it’s time to replace
Freezer15–20 yearsExcessive frost buildup, continuously noisy motor
Oven/stove13–15 yearsUnstable temperature, malfunctioning heating elements
Refrigerator10–14 years (often more cost-effective to replace after 12 years)Excessive heat at the back, clicking noises
Dryer11–14 yearsDrying time doubled, housing overheating
Washer10–12 yearsRecurring leaks, clothes not spinning out properly, excessive vibration, persistent odours
Air conditioner (window/portable)8–12 yearsNo longer cooling, refrigerant leak
Dishwasher9–11 yearsDishes not getting clean, leaking or rusting tub
Portable dehumidifier5–8 yearsCompressor won’t start, frost on the coils
Microwave oven7–10 yearsSparking, turntable not rotating, faulty buttons

The same page writes: “it’s often time to reconsider repair if: the cost of the repair exceeds the appliance’s residual value; the repair amounts to more than half the value of a comparable appliance; breakdowns are becoming more frequent; or the appliance is nearing the end of its useful life.” It also writes: “All appliance repairs are protected by a mandatory three-month warranty on parts and labour, starting from the date shown on the invoice.” And on electronics: “Appliances with a lot of electronics (touchscreens, Wi-Fi) tend to last 2 to 3 years less than simpler mechanical models.”

This source publishes neither a job count nor a median, and it does not say how these lifespans were established: the lifespans are therefore reproduced as published, they are not cited here as a median, and they are not added together.

A part price and an hourly wage are two different things, and neither of them is a repair price: this page does not add them together, multiply a wage by a number of hours, or present any figure as a quote. Every figure above is published by the source named beside it.

The two statements from the repair company are quoted from the same pages the tables on this site come from. The recall notices belong to Health Canada and to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, and are reproduced with their own figures, dates and companies: their figures are units sold and the remedy stated, not service-call statistics. A search returning no record is a search result, not a finding by either agency about the product.

These records are Canadian federal notices, published by Health Canada in English and in French; the French edition of this page quotes the French notices. The Consumer Product Safety Commission publishes in English only.
